Also make sure that your drive roll tension is not to much, enough to move the wire but not enough to push it when you have the wire held at the gun.Cleanliness in a wirefeed insures problem free usability. Can you hear the transformer hum? if you can the problem is in the secondary wiring . A 120V MIG welder turned all the way up will put out about 90A at 18V, around 1600W. A stick weld with a 3/32" 7018 or 1/8" 6010/6011 at 85A will be around 26V or 2200W, significantly more power.I have a Lincoln 135 Pro that I use all the time for sheetmetal. Works great, on the smaller stuff no problem. If you have the power, and the dough, go bigger, but if you have a 1927 house like me, with 120 wiring, its a good machine. I just got an older lincoln sp 125 plus and the panel/door doesnt match. I believe it was changed. Its a wel pak 100 door but its not a weld pak 100. It doesnt have the tap amp dial like it suggests, it has the continuous adjustment knob on top.
