In 1945 they started with S811338 and went to 999999 in 1948. Based on your serial number yours was probably late 1947 to early 1948. In 1957 the 38 M&P became the model 10. There definitely should be a serial number on the butt.
Also, CTG is an abbreviation for cartridge, not a model name. The stamping just indicates the gun is chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. Model names didn't start until 1957.
